Yesterday I took a break from a long day of jobsite hopping to stop by Profiles in the New York Design Center to meet Sara Wise – architect and founder of Sara Wise Design in Seattle, Washington.
Not only is Sarah a super-cool design sister to meet, her line is one of the most well made and well designed furniture lines we’ve seen. With her background in architecture and furniture design, Sarah creates pieces that are meticulously crafted and expertly scaled.
The hourglass shelf series is crafted with steel verticals and shelves customized out or wood, glass or metal. We loved the option of adding a 3-form panel on the back and using this a backlit feature or as a translucent room divider.
The Merge dining table was crafted as a prototype out of a massive 16′ slab. I was taken with the asymmetrical base that allows more seating around the perimeter. Sara also mentioned that this table was used as the head table at her recent wedding. That is the best part!
While some of her pieces have a rough-hewn quality, she’s experimenting with a lot of new finishes, my favorite being flamed nickel. Check out the meticulous detailing:
I’m excited about some of her new pieces that have a little more “bling” possibility.
The Manhattan cocktail table has some serious possibilities for our clients.
Sara sources all of her materials locally, uses dead standing trees for wood, and no formaldehyde in her construction. Her veneers are extra-thick – meaning you can sand and refinish if your piece is damage or scratched rendering it a true heirloom. Sounds pretty sustainable to me!
