4th Annual Sustainable Quilt Auction from IIDA NY Chapter

This Thursday the IIDA NY Chapter hosting the 4th Annual Sustainable Quilt Auction at the Haworth New York Showroom, 125 Park Avenue, New York, NY.  All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit The Fiver Children’s Foundation, a comprehensive youth development organization that empowers children from underserved communities to develop life skills and to reach their full potential.

The Sustainable Design Forum hosted its first Sustainable Quilt Auction in February of 2008.  The Sustainable Quilting bee was founded as a way to encourage designers to save fabric memo samples and discontinued fabric samples instead of discarding them into landfills.

The group then created what was a traditional quilting guild, or quilting bee, and began using the samples to create beautiful quilts.   The original group of 20 participants would meet monthly to discuss, critique and help each other with projects, thus building a new community within the group.

The quilts that are created are then auctioned off, with all proceeds going to a local charity.  Since 2008, the IIDA NY Chapter has proudly auctioned off 21 quilts.

Great fun for a great cause – get your tickets here.
