This past Saturaday I spent the day trolling the aisles of the New York International Gift Fair’s At Home section for the ASID New York Chapter’s Best of the Best awards. I usually steer clear of this particialr fair, as it’s often filled with tchochkies that fill the gift stores of middle America, but ASID asked me to be a judge so I couldn’t say no.
I’ll save you the torture of weeding through all of the junk.
Fortunately there were a few diamonds in the rough. Here are the winners in the seven categoris we juried:
IMAGINATIVE PRODUCT PRESENTATION: Tempo Luxury Home- The jury was almost unanimous on this one. We loved their creative filament bulb pendant lights, screen printed pilows and silk rugs. Debuting at last year’s show, we’re certain these locals have a bright future.
INNOVATIVE PRODUCT DESIGN: Ercole - for their amazing product line which includes custom glass panels and these incredible felted alpaca thows:
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Bevara Design House – Another unanimous choice was this sophisticate furniture line from Bevara. With a stunning selection of furnishings and upholstery, we love the modern lines, responsible materials, and crafted approach they bring. And the founders Stacy and Erik are super-adorable!
WALL ART: Pheromone – Christopher Marley doesn’t need to rely on his striking good looks to charm us into loving his colorful and mesmerizing insect, shell, mineral and fauna compositions.
ACCESSORIES: J Fleet - We were especially fond of the monkey trays.
LIGHTING: Vivify – These hand blown, US-Made colorful lamps are sophisitcated and versatile. Just right for any of our design projects.
TEXTILES: Rani Arabella – I actually missed the awards presentation because I was in their “back room”….these cashmere artists outshined the rest of the show with their meticulous weaves and sumptuoes colors. We especially loved their LOVE pillows.
If you have nothing better to do today, head on over there tomorrow and see for yourself. Otherwise hold out for the Arhcte
